Am I able to use the VOX (voice activation) setting when connecting to a UCLEAR headset?
A. If you are connecting to a UCLEAR headset, ensure to turn the VOX setting to "Disable". Since GMRS radios are half-duplex, pressing the PTT (Push To Talk) button is needed to activate the communication channel and allow the headset's microphones to be used to communicate (this applies to non Motion HDX-V headsets).
Am I able to use voice commands to open and close communication without pressing the PTT button?
A. If you are pairing to a Motion HDX-V, you can use the voice commands "Transmit" and "Over" to open and close the channel instead of pressing the PTT button. To do this, please update the Voice Commands through the ClearLink app. This can be done by going into the Configurations, tapping Voice Commands, and there will be an update button on that page (version 0.18 is the latest version). All other UCLEAR headsets will need to press the PTT button.
Will the radio work the same as the regular headset intercom, where everyone in the channel can talk at will?
A. Since the main communication will be going through the PTT radio and the Motion system will be working as just a headset for audio and the microphones, you won't be able to do full duplex intercom like with intercom on the headsets. GMRS radios are half-duplex communication systems. This means that only one person can be speaking at a time, so a button press is needed (or the voice command activation phrases of the Motion HDX-V) to activate the PTT radio and communicate.
How do I change the channel that I am on?
A. The communication channel can be changed by one of two ways. The first is by the arrow buttons on the face of the radio. The up arrow will increase the number of the channel you are on, and the down arrow will decrease the number of the channel. The second is by the taller knob on the top of the radio (next to the Power/Volume knob). Turning that will also increase or decrease the channel number you are on
Is there a way to stay on one channel and not have it switch accidentally?
A. Please ensure that the group has decided on a channel before going out. Once you have a set channel, you can hold the "Exit" button for 2 seconds and that will lock the buttons, as well as lock the channel the radio is on. This will ensure that the channel can't accidentally be changed by either the buttons on the face of the unit, or the knob on top. Please note that you can also use the "Scan" feature of the radio as well to search for channels that are being used already by other radios.
When playing music through my UCLEAR headset and connected to the Rune, why is my music pausing for a long time when someone talks through the Rune?
A. There is a Bluetooth timeout when the PTT radio is activated. This will pause any music that is playing through a UCLEAR headset (when the headset is paired to the Rune and a phone for music playback). By default, this will be set to a timeout of 15 seconds. This ensures that communication can go through properly before music starts playing again. To disable this Bluetooth timeout, please go to settings, and then select "1. Bluetooth". Sroll down and select "BT Timeout". Set that to "Disable". Please note: Even with this setting disabled, music will not resume playback immediately once people stop talking in the channel. There will still be a short time (only about 2-3 seconds) before music will resume as this allows communication to go through successfully and for the PTT radio to pick up the signal before resuming to music.
When connected to UCLEAR headset to play audio through the speakers, why does the communication sound distorted?
A. If communication through UCLEAR headsets speakers is clipping and sounds distorted, then the Bluetooth gain option is set too high. Please turn that down by going to settings on the Rune and selecting "1. Bluetooth". From there, find "BT Gain" and select that. Set it to a lower number where you can still hear the other person, and so it isn't clipping.
MOTION SERIES
I am looking for your Pulse Pro 2.0 Speakers, do you offer them anymore?
A. At UCLEAR Digital we strive to offer our customers the best in technology advances; for that reason the Pulse Pro 2.0 speakers have been discontinued and repalced with our enhanced HDS10X 40mm Speaker set and 3.5mm speaker adapter/mic set. You can find both of these new products, here.
Do I have to fully pair the whole group every time?
A. With all UCLEAR intercom systems, once the full pairing process has been done, turning off all units will save that pairing into permanent memory. You can simply turn on all units, hold the Volume Up button for 2 seconds on any unit, and it will quickly rejoin intercom for all turned-on units. Holding Volume Down for 2 seconds will disconnect the group.
My unit is not turning on, and it does not show any light when plugged into a power source?
A. This typically means the device is stuck in "update mode". To resolve this, connect it to the charger and press and hold the Power, Volume Up, and Volume Down buttons for 3 seconds. The light should turn on, indicating it is charging. You can then unplug it and turn it on as usual.
Why am I not getting any sound through my speakers?
A. Ensure the speaker plug is correctly oriented with the UCLEAR logo facing the front of the unit and fully inserted. For 3.5mm adapters, ensuring a tactile 'click' with the 3.5mm connection between the speakers and adapter will confirm the connection.
Why is my music/phone calls coming through the speakers on my phone instead of UCLEAR?
A. Ensure that the UCLEAR unit is paired with your phone's main Bluetooth and not just the app. Put the unit in Bluetooth pairing mode by holding both volume buttons for 2 seconds. Look for the UCLEAR selection on your phone's Bluetooth settings.
Why does my iPhone take multiple hours to download the update through the ClearLink app?
A. Apply products handle Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connections different than Android products. There is a limit on how much data can be transferred at one time through the BLE connection on iPhones, so this causes the download to take longer than if the download was done with an Android phone. To not interrupt the download and to make sure it has a chance to fully download, please ensure that you have sufficient time to allow the download to fully complete, so we recommend to do this update before you go to bed. Or you can do the update through the computer as well with the control unit hardwired to your computer using the provided USB charging/data cord. You can find the latest updates on our website here.
Where should I place my microphones in the helmet?
A. Microphone placement with the Motion series is incredibly important as the Advanced Beam Forming (ABF) technology requires the microphones to be symmetrical and properly placed within the helmet. For full face helmets, the microphones can be placed down by your mouth, just sticking out of the cheekpads on either side of your mouth. For modular, 3/4, and half-helmets with speaker pockets, the microphones should be placed on the inside brim of the helmet above your eyebrows, with the microphones about 4-6 inches apart. This will put the microphones just above your temples. To visually see how these should be placed, please refer to our installation video here.
Which Motion models include the USafe Crash Detection system?
A. The USafe Crash Detection System is only available in the Motion HDX-V and Motion Infinity models. Both the Motion 6 and Motion 4 Lite do not come equipped with this feature.
Why aren't my Motion units going into Music Sharing mode?
A. To get the units into Music sharing mode, you will want the units blinking blue and not currently in intercom mode. Please turn the units off and then back on, or hold the Volume Down button on a unit for 2 seconds to exit intercom. From there, with the units blinking blue, go through the Music Sharing steps and they will pair for Music Sharing.
How do I enable Private Intercom with another rider while in a group?
A. Private Intercom with one other rider while in a group is possible on the Motion Infinity and Motion HDX-V models only. While in group intercom with all units' lights double flashing green, hold the Power button and Volume Up buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds on the two units you want to have for Private Intercom. The lights will start flashing purple. Then, tap the Power button once on either of the units. The lights will go back to the double flashing green and flash in sync to indicate they are paired for Private Intercom. To swap between Private Intercom and Group Intercom, tap the Power button once on either of the units.
AMP Series/AMP Go 2
I received my new AMP system and no sound is coming through the speakers...
A. Ensure the speaker plug is fully inserted into the controller. All three ribs on the speaker plug should be hidden inside the controller for a weather-resistant seal.
My unit is not turning on, and it doesn't show any light when plugged into a power source.
A. The device may be in "update mode". Connect it to the charger and hold the Power, Volume Up, and Volume Down buttons for 3 seconds. The light should turn on, indicating it is charging.
Why do my Boost 2.0 speakers have a crackle sound when playing music?
A. If you are getting poor quality audio through the speakers when playing music, please make sure that the ‘Bass Boost’ feature is turned OFF through the ClearLink application. Bass Boost is a feature that is meant for previous generations of speakers (V2 speakers, Pro Microphone speakers) that didn’t have a lot of bass built in. Boost 2.0 Speakers and Pulse Pro speakers should not have this feature turned on as it can overpower the drivers when they already have extra bass built into the speakers.
General Questions
Can I pair my UCLEAR with other brands of intercom communication systems?
A. YES! All of our systems (HBC100 Plus, HBC200, AMP Series, and all Motion Series) will be able to pair with other brands of communication systems as long as the other brand allows it as well. To pair with another brand, please check your specific systems full user manual as each system will pair slightly different. Note: Cross brand connections will limit functionality, as the pairing acts as a ‘phone call’ between the two units which has the highest priority. Because of this, some functionality (such as Music Overlay) will be limited during intercom with the other brand.
Which UCLEAR units are compatible with each other?
A. Almost all UCLEAR units are fully compatible with each other and will be able to communicate through intercom without issue! The only exception to this is the original VYBE or HBC100 systems (the non-‘Plus’ version). Other than those two units, all HBC100 Plus, HBC200, AMP series, and Motion series will be able to pair together and fully communicate through intercom.
What Bluetooth versions do UCLEAR systems use?
A. HBC Series: All HBC units use Bluetooth 2.1. AMP Series: AMP, AMP Plus, AMP Pro, and the original AMP Go use Bluetooth 4.2. The AMP Go 2 system uses Bluetooth 5.0. Motion Series: All Motion units use Bluetooth 5.0.
